High Five for Friday

Since I will be traveling today and this weekend, visiting family, delivering gifts, eating, etc.... I will list my favorite five things I'm thankful for today:

1) Gift bags are great for a quick and easy way to give a gift, plus they are recyclable!

2) Big truck, with lots of storage, and comfy big seats.

3) My iPod!!! Hubby can listen to his talk radio and I can listen to Christmas music or whatever I want. Plus I can drown out the road noise and sleep.

4) Christmas music, of my choice, on my iPod.

5) Christmas food!!! I love the Honey Baked Ham we'll be having, YUM-O!!!

SweetPea's First Vet Visit....

I've had quite a few people emailing me about an update on SweetPea. So here it is....

Last week I took SweetPea for her first vet visit, to get her tested and start her shots. The reason I haven't posted this is because her FIV test was positive. I was heartbroken. I cried for her. BUT...

We have decided to look into other options instead of putting her to sleep. We currently have four kitties inside that do not have FIV. We have chosen to vaccinate our four kitties and keep SweetPea. YAY!!!!

This will take nine weeks to get them all their shots and allow time for them to work. Every year they will get a booster. There are a few drawbacks. First, the vaccination means that our four will always test positive for FIV, even if they don't have it. It's one of the effects of the vaccination. Also, the vaccination is only 80% effective. Which I consider pretty good.

Another option is there might be someone in Marietta that is thinking about taking her. She's lost both her kitties this year and may be ready for another now. She's seen SweetPea's pictures and has kept up with her story, she calls us for personal updates every week. We will find out over Christmas weekend if she has a new home or will stay will us.

We've been taking our pets to Dr. Williams at Southwood Animal Hospital since 1997 and we love her so much. She really and truly is the best.

Thanks for keeping up with SweetPea, for your concern and prayers. She will most definitely be loved where ever she lives And SHE WILL LIVE a long happy life, thank God.

High Five for Friday

This time of year I love to create in the kitchen. Cookies. Cakes. Fudge. Brownies. Candy. Nuts. Crackers. I love it all.

So this Friday I want to share my five favs in the kitchen that I use a lot this time of year. Actually all year but especially during Christmas-time.

Cookie sheets, great for cookies, jelly rolls or other rolls, nuts, so many things.

SweetPea is 11 Weeks old today!

11 weeks old

If you've been keeping up on SweetPea's story then you know that she gets her first FIV test next Monday when she's 12 weeks old. We have become so totally in love with her and I am hoping and praying for good test results. But then if they are good we have to wait another 3 months for her second testing.

We've been trying very hard to think of a way to keep her even if she does test positive. At first we were trying to find a home where she'd stay the only cat and only indoors. But now that we love her so much we really want to keep her. I have a list of questions to ask our vet next week. Hopefully I'll get the answers I WANT to hear.

In the meantime, she's our little angel. That wakes me up at all hours through the night, wanting to play, wanting to be loved, wanting to snuggle. She's also our little monster that wakes me up all through the night pulling my hair and biting my toes. I LOVE HER!!!!

December Daily - Dec 3

Can't believe I overslept again!! But I do have a good excuse. SweetPea has found my hair very fascinating. Especially at 2:00 AM. It doesn't matter if I wear it loose or put it up, she thinks it's her 2AM play thing. She takes a mouthful and tries to run away, like she's dragging off some prey or something. Let me tell you, it's a very rude awakening.

Then sometime between 4AM & 5AM she sneaks her way under the covers and likes to play with my toes. With her sharp little needle teeth. Another rude awakening!!! I've been trimming her claws, wish there was something I could do about those needles in her mouth.

This morning I came across the box with some of my cat hats. I tried one on Gucci, and he was NOT in the mood. At all. I got just a few pictures before he showed me his bad attitude. So I'll have to wait another day to get a better picture than the one I got today. See for yourself, he's not happy at all.

Even though I woke up so late, I still got a lot accomplished. Our guest bedroom had started becoming more like a storage room, so I cleaned it out. Then I started in on the kitchen, cleaned every cabinet and rearranged a few. Threw out some outdated canned items. Scolded myself and hubby for buying things and then never using them. Took all the items on top of the cabinets down, cleaned them and dusted on top, then out the items back. I bet I was up and down that ladder 50 times today. I also bet my butt will be very sore tomorrow!

Now I wonder what tonight holds for me? More hair pulling? Toe bites? Or something completely different?

December Daily - Dec 2

Today started off by me sleeping late. Ugh, I really dislike that.

Played with the kitties for a bit. Cleaned up a little. Then went out shopping. Got those red containers and started organizing. Bought an extra Christmas tree for a table top or guest room, HL has 50% off all the Christmas items.

Posted my "High Five for Friday" post this morning. In that post one of my favs this week is a wintry screen saver, I just love it! Here it is on my laptop, along with our little SweetPea checking it out:

December Daily - Dec 1

It was an incredibly busy day. First I packed up some "stuff" that would be in my way when I decorate for Christmas. I filled 6 plastic storage containers, packed them in my car and took them to storage. I have a Mustang so it took 2 trips just for this process. I then rummaged around in the storage for my Christmas stuff I bought the last few years. That was a tough job!

OK, long story short. All our decorations was stolen a few years ago. I bought new stuff right after that Christmas when things were on sale. Then last year I bought more stuff. Also, the past two Christmas's my hubby had been sent overseas so I didn't decorate then. When I bought the new stuff and put them in storage I didn't put everything together. Today I had to start going through EVERY container and box to see what was in them. Organization is everything!!! and I suck at it!!!!

I'm going to buy RED containers and put all my Christmas stuff in them so I can instantly know next year.

UPS and USPS delivered boxes today, 4 total. I received the Foodsaver, my Blitsy order, a Joann's order and my Cricut Cake. Can't wait to see what arrives tomorrow!!!

Tonight I went out and bought a new wreath for the front door, Michael's had them 60% off, so I got a $35 wreath for under $17. (That's going to be my picture for today, so I'll have to upload the pic tomorrow.)

I'm really tired so it's off to bed, with Advil.......and a good drink..... Goodnight!

December Daily, yes I think I will 'try'

Been reading a lot about December Daily over in the Two Peas Scrapbooking Forum. I've seen lots of examples that others did last year and some have already started for this year. AMAZING stuff!!!

I love that there are no 'set' rules. Anyone can do it and do it in what ever style and size you want. I love that!

Many of the ladies already have their albums or books ready, decorated and some have their pages already pre-made. I'm so impressed by them, and a little intimidated too. But I will try it anyway.

I plan on making my own album/book. Maybe something similar to the ever popular Smash books. It may not be as nice or exciting as the others, but it will be mine and hopefully I can improve on it next year, especially if I start earlier. (Yes, I am a procrastinator!)

I will post here what I've done and share photos with you. I'm going to add some links to my sidebar of others that are doing the December Daily. If you are doing it too and you'd like me to add your blog link on my sidebar, leave a message and let me know.

Also, the ladies have been generous with their ideas. I am compiling a list and will post that tomorrow.

I. Think. Not.

You would think with Black Friday, And the days after, And Cyber Monday, that I'd be done. Well, I'M NOT!!! BUT, I am closer to the end of that proverbial tunnel.

I bet I'll be getting really acquainted with the UPS person over the next few weeks!

So, how did your shopping go? What deals did you find? Are you done?

I've actually seen where some people have completed their gift buying, wrapped, and have the gifts under the tree. Seriously? For real? I guess I'm just not that together or organized. I never have been, so why should I start now.

I still have to wrap gifts, with my cats help. Now that could take a LONG time! Have you ever wrapped gifts with cats? Sometimes you have to wrap, then re-wrap, then maybe re-wrap again. It's entertaining, and exhausting, and exasperating, all at the same time. But I really love my little monsters, so it's mostly funny.

Updates on Little Mama and SweetPea....

SweetPea will be 8 weeks old tomorrow, she is completely weened, eating hard food, using the litter box and oh so totally cute. We've had several offers from people who want her, she is so loved already.

Little Mama is another story. We could not find a home for her and we can't keep her inside. We already have four cats that are indoor only cats. So we decided to keep her as our outdoor cat but she needed to be spayed and get her shots first. No one wants another litter of stray kittens, there are too many in the world as is.

So last Thursday I took Mama to get her shots and spayed, and of course get tested for any diseases. I got the call at 8:00 am Friday morning, it was not good news. Little Mama has FIV. FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and very contagious. It's similar to the human form of HIV. But FIV is not only transmitted through blood, it is transmitted through saliva also.

If we could have found her a home, indoors only, and where she was the only cat she could live for several years without seeing any side effects of the disease, but we looked and no one could take her. I couldn't subject our four kitties to the disease either. And if we let her back outside she could infect all the cats out there. The vet said we had to euthanize her.

Now here's another kick in the gut. SweetPea may have it too. She can't be tested until she is 12 weeks old (so we have to wait 4 weeks), if we get a negative in that one then she gets tested again at 6 months. We are starting a search for someone who can take her in case she is positive. We would need her to be the only cat, strictly indoors. Until we know for sure we will keep her quarantined like she is now, in the master bedroom.

I have cried on and off every day since Friday morning. It is so sad.

Please pray for SweetPea. I'll keep you posted.

P.S. When Little Mama's other 2 babies passed away I took them to Pet Plantation, a pet crematory. Pamela owns it and she is such a sweet lady, very gentle and loving. She creamated the babies for me and spread their ashes in North Georgia on some land her family owns. We contacted her and she will cremate Mama and spread her there also.

Today SweetPea is 7 weeks old. When her two siblings died in their first week after being born, I wasn't so sure about SweetPea's survival. Thank God she proved my fears wrong.

She is a happy, loving, spunky, joyful kitty and we absolutely love her. Which makes it very hard to give her up. So I guess what I'm saying is that we might keep her? Yep, we might. We have to take in consideration the cats we already have. And we still haven't found her Mama a home yet, unfortunately grown cats are harder to find permanent homes for. We are having Mama spayed this Friday, so at least there won;t be any more stray kittens coming from her anymore.

Meatloaf Cupcakes, for real??!!!!

One of my favorite web sites to spend time on is Foodgawker. I can literally spend HOURS looking at all that food. So many times I see something and think that I'd love to make. Tonight I did!

Yesterday I was looking around and came across a Meatloaf Cupcake. Now when I think of cupcakes I think about some tasty cake pastry thing, with sweet frosting or ganache on top. But this was a Meatloaf Muffin with Mashed Potatoes on top. Awesome!!!!!

I HAD TO MAKE IT!!!

Hubby was very impressed, he ate two of them. And they were very good. I will definitely be doing these again.

Recipe? Not really, I just throw things together but I'll share what I basically do:

First I chopped a medium onion and mince 2 to 4 cloves of garlic, then I saute them with a little olive oil, add about a teaspoon of oregano leaves. Sometimes I will also chop some green bell pepper to saute. After it's cooked a little I set it aside to cool a bit.

In a large bowl I put 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of ground chuck (and sometimes I mix ground pork or ground turkey with the chuck). I add approximately one cup of Panko bread crumbs, 2 tablespoons mustard, 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, 2 eggs, 3 to 4 tablespoons ketchup or A1 Steak sauce. (Use ketchup for a milder taste, use A1 if you want something a little spicier.) Add one teaspoon of salt and halt a teaspoon cracked pepper. Then add onion mixture.

Mix it all together. I use my hand, some people use a large spoon. Whatever works for you.

According to the size of your muffin pan you use and the amount of meat you use, determines how many meatloaf cupcakes you get. I usually get about a dozen using one large and one regular 6 count muffin pan. Fill muffin pan almost to the top. Then add on top 1 teaspoon of either ketchup or steak sauce, which ever one you used in the mix.

Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes.

While the meatloaves are cooking, make your favorite buttery mashed potatoes. I using a piping bag with a large star tip to add the mashies on top, then sprinkle with fresh chives and bacon pieces.

Stuff. Crap. Junk. Clutter. etc.......

I've been thinking lately about the "stuff" that I/We have. I'm not getting any younger, neither is the hubby. We never had children. We are not close to any nieces or nephews or cousins. So what do we do with our stuff should something happen to one or both of us?

I know. Morbid much?!

But my birthday is coming up soon and like I said, we are not getting any younger.

I definitely do not want the state to get our "stuff" so we need to decide what to do and make a will.

I scrapbook so I have a lot of scrappy stuff. There's a lot of money invested in that.

I also have jewelry. Nothing majorly major high dollar stuff. But all together definitely worth a good amount.

So what do we do with our "stuff" and make sure it goes where we want it.

Today I decided to try to de-clutter, get organized, get rid of crap and decide what is needed and what to get rid of. I'm going to be dropping things off to Good Will and the trash. The rest of the "stuff", I'll be making an inventory and deciding what goes where. Maybe I'll just decide that everything gets sold and all the money goes to some charity.

Little Mama & SweetPea - an update

I wanted to update those that have been curious about the Mama kitty and babies I rescued. I blogged about the sad day that one of the babies died. A few days later another baby died. I was heartbroken. The vet said that because they were born in the rain and stayed in the rain for 5 days straight that they were weakened. The first 2 weeks, especially the first week, baby kittens need to stay very warm, and unfortunately Little Mama wasn't able to find them a safe dry place. By the time I found them it was already too late.
If you are wondering what I did with the baby kittens that passed, I had them cremated and their ashes spread on some land in the north Georgia mountains. I cried, said a prayer, lit a candle and will never forget them.

Now on to some good news!

The third baby kitten, which I have been calling SweetPea, has survived and is getting stronger and more beautiful everyday. Little Mama is being a really good mama, she has gained weight and producing a lot of milk for SweetPea. I'll let you judge for yourself with these pictures:

One of the rescued baby kittens died this morning. Vet said that they were out in the rainy weather and stayed wet too long. Hopefully the other two babies will make it. If they live for another week they should be good. Praying......

Since I returned the baby kitten to it's Mama I have been so worried about them. It's been raining a lot around here and getting a little cool at night. So I set about trying to fin where the Mama kitty had taken her baby, also that would be where other babies are too.

I was getting strange looks from people watching me try to secretly follow this cat. Here's how it went:

Little Mama came to eat. I feed her. Through the window I watched her eat. When she finished she hung around a little while bathing herself, and I watched. When she started strolling away I came out the door as quietly as I could. She's a smart and suspicious little kitty too. She'd stop and look around, I hid behind a bush. She started walking again and I followed, she stopped, looked around and I hid behind a car. Again she walked and I followed again. This went on for about 30 minutes. I was hiding behind trees, bushes, cars, light poles (now that must have been funny looking!). I hid behind anything that I could, even if I could still be seen from both sides, hahahahahaha.

Then this punk ass kid comes out of his door, I tell him what I'm trying to do, I point out Little Mama. He said he was just going across the street to an open field and throw his ball around. Then this PUNK ASS KID runs straight for Little Mama, scares her and she runs as fast as she can away. I really dislike some kids!!!!
Don't get me started on that topic!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, yesterday I finally found her place, I picked up her 3 babies and brought them home. A little while later she shows up for dinner and I bring her in to her babies. SEE!!!!!!

I saved a newborn kitten!!!!

The other day my doorbell rang, it was Jennifer coming to tell me that a baby kitten was laying on the sidewalk. I immediately ran out to see, and yep a newborn baby kitten was laying right there, at the edge of the sidewalk. I ran back inside, grabbed a clean washcloth and a plastic tub, picked the baby kitten up and placed it inside. As soon as I touched the baby it started squealing instantly, and loudly. We were relieved that it was still alive and started trying to find it's mama.

Jenn and I walked around, looking in bushes, corners of buildings, covered patios. Nothing. No mama kitty. Since Jenn had to get back to work I continued looking for mama on my own. First I called my vets office to see what I needed to do in case I couldn't find mama. I needed a kitten baby bottle and mother's milk because the baby would need to eat at least every 1 1/2 to 3 hours. And I needed something to keep baby warm. So off I went to PetsMart and got supplies.

After I feed the baby I went off again to look for mama. I walked around for another hour or so and returned back home to feed baby again. I figured that mama was a kitty I had been feeding for a few months now and she always showed up when it was starting to get dark, around 8:30 to 9:00 at night. So I decided to wait and hope that she would come back to load up on food so she could be a good mama to her other babies.

Sure enough she came for dinner!!!! I was ecstatic to see her!!!

I wish I had brought out my Flip video camera and taken a video of their reunion, it was precious.

First I fed mama, she ate a whole large can of food and then I brought the plastic tub out with baby. I set baby on the ground in the washcloth and it instantly started squealing again. Mama looked at baby, looked at me, sniffed baby, looked at me again and I swear she had a 'what the hell' look on her face. Mama sniffed baby again, licked baby, then snatched her up and took off.

Mama and baby are reunited and I couldn't be happier!!!

Let me introduce you to Charlie....

One of our favorite things to do is rescue stray kitties and find them homes. Sometimes they touch your heart so much instantly that you decide they are already home with you. This is the case with Charlie.

The first time I picked him up he fought just a little, then he snuggled right into my neck and started purring. That was it, he was mine.

The vet determined he was about 4 to 4 1/2 months old, he got tested for diseases, got his shots and neutered. Now we just have to get him acquainted with our other 3 kitties and life will be better with him in it.

This past weekend I went to a crop hosted by Sweet Memories Scrapbook in Carrollton, GA. I made this Halloween wreath and it was so much fun! I used a star wreath kit from Kaisercraft, DCWV Ghosts & Goblins Stack, buttons with twine, some Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam (love this stuff!!), paper punches for the flowers and birds, and other various embellishments.

Tropical Storm Lee and Pensacola Beach

We were in Florida over Labor Day weekend and so was Tropical Storm Lee! Wow, what an amazing storm. VERY windy. Lightening. Thunder. Awesome clouds. And did I mention the WIND!!!

It was my Mom's birthday that weekend. We had grand plans. HAD as in past tense. But we adjusted and still had a super fun great weekend.

Mom mentioned her and Dad would always go to the beach after a storm and see the waves, so me and my brother went to the beach with her. And the waves were AWESOME!

I took several videos and this one shows best what we saw and heard. It was still VERY windy and felt like we were getting sandblasted the whole time we were out there. It was great!!!

Happy 70th Birthday Mom!!!

My Mom turned 70 years old yesterday. I picked one of my brothers up and we came down for a birthday weekend celebration. There was a lot of laughter and smiles, and that's exactly what we were hoping for.

First, Saturday we took her to Fort Walton for the Greek Festival. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as the one that's held in Pensacola, but we still had a good time.

And then comes the sneaky stuff that Mom had NO idea we were planning. My brother and I told her we were going to see a cousin and visit for a while. What we actually did was take almost 100 balloons and have them blown up for her Sunday morning surprise. This is what she walked in on when she woke up Sunday morning:

There were balloons everywhere!!! Most of them had "surprises" in them, and that's also why some of them are not floating, the surprise made them too heavy. So she had to pop most of these balloons. And this is what her floor looked like after the balloons were popped:

Popped balloons and confetti, all over her floor, and guess who cleaned up? Me of course, it was her birthday and I couldn't let her clean.

Then later my cousin and some friends came over for a pizza party. It was a good day. She laughed. She smiled. She had fun. She enjoyed herself. That was our goal and it was so worth it, to hear her laughter and see her smile.

The problem? I am alone. And I still feel smothered. Smothered by my own demons. The things that stop me from doing and being what I know I should or could.

Time to do a little venting!

On August 10th I placed an order with Scrapbook Chicks, then again on August 18th I placed another order. Today I check the status of my orders and they are still 'processing'!!! WTF!! It's been over 2 weeks for the first and over a week on the second order.

AND. IT'S. STILL. P R O C E S S I N G !!!!!!!

Are you kidding me?? Is anyone working over there??

I think maybe these two girls have overloaded themselves. They run: Two Chicks Designs a scrap apparel online store, Scrapbook Chicks online store, and now starting an upline company called Pink Whimsy. Here's some advice: if you can't keep up with what you are already running then not a good idea to start something new.

OK. Done now. Wish I felt better.

A Few Projects from 2011...

With everything that went on this year in my family I hadn't had the time to be creative. But there were a few moments I made the time to escape into my little crafty world and do a few layouts.

Here's a few I did:

My cousin Kathy and her daughter Laken, I love these girls so much! I made this as a gift for Kathy, I put it in a scrapbook frame and it hangs on her wall. So glad she loved it!

This is my sweet Gucci, he tolerates me putting hats on him sometimes. Isn't he the cutest little Santa Kitty you ever saw!

I took this photo at the pond close to where we live, I just thought it was so beautiful standing, almost like it was posing for me.
October of 2010 I found this little kitten outside in the bushes, she was hungry and needed love and found it all with us. She instantly started leaving little paw prints on every ones heart, including our other kitties.
In January 2009 I saw this fountain, it had frozen and looked so pretty I had to take some pictures.

I have a few other projects I made I just need to get some good pictures of them. Thanks for looking and I hope you come back again.

I'm BACK!!!

I've been away a very long time. Good reason: I was spending the last year of my father's life with him. My Dad passed away March 8, 2011 and I was blessed to be there with him, along with my Mom, my three brothers and my husband. All of his last wishes we made sure came true for him. Dad would have turned 75 years old on August 12th, that day we spread his ashes out at sea, his very last wish.

So now I will get back my crafty mojo and get busy. I'm headed to a weekend scrap event in September and I'm extremely ready to get back at it. I will post some new creations that I really hope you all can enjoy.

In between my crafty posts I will be chatty and post photos. I hope you enjoy!

A Quick Year in Review

It has been a year. And not so much fun for the most part. There were good times and laughs. There were bad times and tears. But you can sum up most of the year in one word: CANCER!

Here goes:
At the beginning of the year my father-in-law was diagnosed with stage 3 small cell lung cancer. His doctors decided to treat it VERY aggressively. It was a long year consisting of 17 chemo treatments and 40+ radiation treatments. Afterwards he finally received the great news that he is cancer free.
Early summer my Dad was diagnosed with stage 3 non-small cell lung cancer. After only one treatment of chemo he almost died. Dad ended up in the hospital for almost a month, came home and seemed to be getting better. The doctors decided he could not handle any more chemo but he was able finish up his radiation. Unfortunately it did not work. Dad's lung tumor is larger and it has spread to his brain. So this story will continue into next year.
We did get a new addition to our family. We named her Lucy. She has added laughter and cuddling to our lives. Such a sweet and entertaining little kitty.
My hubby is back overseas for a short visit. Unfortunately he won't be home for Christmas or to ring in 2011 with me. We will have a belated celebration after he returns home once again.

I haven't scrapbooked much, but I am going to change that very soon. I need to get back into it. It's such a great creative outlet for me and That is something I feel missing in my life right now.

So hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a safe 2011 New Year!!!

I decided to come down to my parents for a week or so. Figured since I would be here for so long I'd bring my scrappy stuff to play with. So I'm down in Florida visiting with my parents, it's Father's Day and of course I couldn't get him a plain store bought card. I made him one!!

Thanks to SVG Cuts, they offered a free SVG file for Father's Day that is wonderful. I think it made a beautiful card, but that's just my opinion. Tell me what you think?

I made the card with a little pocket to hold some scratch off lottery tickets. My Dad rarely buys them but loves to get them, so this was perfect. Thanks SVG Cuts for all the free svg files that you offer, they are great!!!

Just bought 2 new Cricut Lite Cartridges

I know most of you have heard about these new Cricut Cartridges, called Cricut Lite. They are $39.00 each and exclusive to the WalMart stores. A few days ago I bought the 'Bloom' cartridge and today I picked up the 'Celebrate with Flourish' cartridge.

There are a few more that I'd like to get. I think the next one will be 'Botanicals', that is if I can find it in any of the WalMart's I go to. I like 'Meow', plus I do have cats, 3 of them right now. That's who I mostly scrap as well, but the cuts are a bit more cutesy than I usually do. So I will be thinking long and hard before I actually get that one, even though I really do like it.

My Husband. My Dad. My Brother. My Grandfather. My Uncle. Some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure to know.

Who are they?

They are the men and women who serve or have served our country in the armed forces. I remember all of you today and always. Thank you for all you've done, for all you do and for all that you will do.

All gave some, some gave all.

Special honor goes to my personal hero, my Husband, who has given 33 years of service. He has served 5 times overseas in this latest tragedy. I thank God that he has returned home each time safe. Knowing that he will be going back again is a little nerve racking, but God willing he will return home safe once again.

Update on This Scrapper's Life

I've been away from blogging for over a month now and a lot has happened in that month.

First, my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and has been getting chemo and radiation at the same time. It's a very aggressive cancer and they are treating very aggressively too. We did get some great news this week, his tumors have shrunk 33%!!!! We are feeling very encouraged by this news and knowing that the aggressive treatments are working is a relief to all of us. Hopefully we will continue to get good news on this.

Secondly, my Dad is still waiting on his doctors to find out what is wrong with his heart and lungs. They want to do a heart cath but are concerned about his lung function. The last time he had to be put under for a surgery/procedure he ended up in ICU/CCU for 10 days because of his lungs and they are not any better today, actually his lung function has gotten worse. So we continue to wait to see what the professionals decide to do.

Thirdly, I've been playing a lot with my Sure Cuts A Lot 2 program. OMG!!!! I love this thing! I have discovered quite a few blogs and websites where you can get svg files for free. A few really great sites where you can buy a set of svg files, really great price, much cheaper than a Cricut cartridge. Not to say I will never buy another Cricut cartridge. Never say never in scrapbooking! So in the next few days I will share with you some of what I have been doing, along with pictures and links to the sites where I got the svg files. (I always try to give credit where credit is due.)

Cricut Cartridge Storage, YIPPEE!!!!!

I love finding really great storage ideas, especially if it helps me with my ever growing scrap stuff. I can't remember which forum I was reading, but I came across one discussing this storage idea for Cricut cartridges. I HAD to take a look at this person's blog and see what all the craze was about. Then there it was! An ideal solution, at least for me, for my Cricut cartridge storage. AND it's also a great way to carry your cartridges to crops and retreats. First I will show you my absolutely fabulous pictures and then I'll share with you the blog (the one with the instructions!!!!). If you decide to make this for yourself please come back here and let me know.

I got my storage bins from Target for around 7 bucks, I bought 2. The plastic canvas I got at Walmart, 6 sheets in a pack for less than 3 bucks.

Now, are you wondering about all those boxes that were taking up so much space and very difficult to travel with? I gave a few to a friend who I refer to as the 'altering' queen. Looking forward to seeing what she creates with them. I still have plenty that I can alter myself. When creativity strikes that is. And of course I will share what I do, especially if I do something really fantabulous.

Went to a friends house and played with her SCAL2 program, OMG!!!! I absolutely LOVE it. We made a 'Welcome' greeting in vinyl for her front door, it turned out so great, wish I had taken a picture of it to post and show you. Maybe I'll sneak over there again with my camera and post an update. Anyway, I have to have that program now. I'm waiting for the disk to arrive in the mail and then off I will go. I can pretty much guarantee that you will be seeing a lot of projects in the future from me using SCAL2. I have already been very busy downloading some free SVG files and fonts. I may need another storage drive just for all my files I'm downloading!

Couture Cardstock March 4 Challenge

Today's challenge at Couture Cardstock is to use a butterfly or some other bug on your project. I felt like making a "Welcome Spring" card, especially with all the snow, rain and cold weather we've had and now we are starting to see warmer and sunnier days.

Update on my father-in-law...

As I mentioned last week, my father-in-law was having a biopsy on his lungs, thyroid and chest. Yesterday afternoon we got the results, he has stage 4 lung cancer. We sort of knew the diagnosis would be cancer, but knowing for sure and the fact that it's stage 4, it's horrible news. The lung cancer had already spread throughout his chest and to his thyroid as well. The doctors said it is a very aggressive but because of my FIL's health they can not do surgery, his lung function is so low that he'd probably not survive it. They also can't do chemotherapy because of his other health issues, COPD and Diabetes, so they are going to do another drug therapy, called Tarceva. It's a once a day pill that is a "targeted cancer treatment."

Let's hope and pray that it works.

Couture Cardstock Challenge Day 2

Couture Cardstock's challenge for today was to use decorative border punches in a layout. This really excited me because I love border punches and I had two new MS punches I was wanting to use. But then came the next thought, I haven't done a layout in 3 or 4 months, I know I was rusty so I had to find some pictures that spoke to me. I found 4 of our cats Biscuit and Peanut, which meant a possible 2 page layout, which I ended up doing. I also did something I hardly ever do, and that's journal, in my own handwriting no less. I know, shocker! I even made a pocket to do a hidden journal, and I used a border punch on that. So below are the 2 pages and a closer look at the journaling.

Journaling:

Biscuit & Peanut were the best of buds. Both cats weighed almost 30 pounds but they are (were) the sweetest cats ever, especially with each other. When Peanut died Biscuit mourned him so much, I was very worried because he cried all the time. Biscuit is OK now but we all still remember and miss Peanut tremendously. We love you Peanut!

Several months ago I won a pack of Couture Cardstock but never used it until today. What a dummy I am!!! I LOVE this cardstock! It's textured, but not too much. It's thick and sturdy, but just the right amount of thickness and sturdiness. So today I made a card using one of their dark browns and I really love it. I used the cardstock for the flower and butterfly punches and I used it in my Cricut for the swirl and words, perfect cuts in both. So, what do you think about my card?

I needed a break. I was getting extremely OCD in my scrapbook obsession. Some of you know what I'm talking about. Don't laugh, you know exactly who you are!!!

Maybe I could do one of those "You know you're excessively obsessed with scrapbooking when" type list. I would list some, but I'm honestly too embarrassed.

Hopefully I have my head on a bit more straight and I can have a normal balance of scrapbooking with everyday life. I can hope!

A little update here:

My husband came home from overseas, that is always a relief when he returns. But he did return to some troubling news. A few years ago this happened to me but I wasn't blogging at that time.
Here's the story:
In September of 2007 my Mom called to tell me my Dad had prostate cancer. About a week later she called telling me the doctors thought she might have leukemia. I went to see them and she was having her bone marrow biopsy, it was bad news and good news. So back to my Dad, because of his other health issues he could not do the seed implants, he had to do radiation. Thank God every thing worked and today he is still cancer free. My Mom does have leukemia, but it was caught VERY early and is still sitting dormant right now. She gets her blood checked several times a year and as soon as they see a change in her red and white blood cell counts they will know that it has become more active. So as of today they are both doing well.

Now back to hubby's troubling news. He gets home and his mother's mammogram showed a spot and a week later his Dad's CT scan showed a lesion on his lung and a soft tissue mass in his upper left chest close to his heart. His Mom had a biopsy, it is a tumor but it turned out to be non-cancerous, again thank God. But his Dad just had several biopsy's today and we should know next week exactly what's going on with him. His blood work does show signs of cancer, we just don't know exactly what that is yet.

Prayer's are always welcome and very appreciated.

I will try and get better about updating this blog, especially now that I've had my reality check.

First I want to show you the great colors and style of Cosmo Cricket's Early Bird 6 x 6 paper pad. Lately I've been inspired to do something other than layouts of my cats. I have 3 niece's and they each have a daughter. (Actually I have more than 3 nieces, but these three are sisters.) They've been posting some really cute pictures of their girls and when I look at them I just have to scrap. This one is my design based on the Pagemaps seen above. I used both Prima and Zva pearl bling, they both are so beautiful and work well together you can't tell them apart. (Sorry the pictures are not the greatest, but weather the past few days has been rather yucky and indoor lighting is just not all that.)

I have a Thicker's obsession. OK, I have a scrapbooking obsession. I have a store in my closet. It's amazing how much stuff I have, but I was actually shocked at my Thicker's collection.

A friend of mine that owns an online scrapbooking store had a celebration this past weekend, her stores 2 year celebration. She had everything in the store for 35 % off. She also has some of the NEWEST Thicker's, really cool looking Thicker's, Thicker's I don't have in my stash. Thicker's I really, really want to have in my stash.

“I’m Tired”

Two weeks ago, as I was starting my sixth month of duty in Iraq, I was forced to return to the USA for surgery for an injury I sustained prior to my deployment. With luck, I’ll return to Iraq to finish my tour. I left Baghdad and a war that has every indication that we are winning, to return to a demoralized country much like the one I returned to in 1971 after my tour in Vietnam. Maybe it’s because I’ll turn 60 years old in just four months, but I’m tired:

I’m tired of spineless politicians, both Democrat and Republican who lack the courage, fortitude, and character to see these difficult tasks through.

I’m tired of the hypocrisy of politicians who want to rewrite history when the going gets tough.

I’m tired of the disingenuous clamor from those that claim they ‘Support the Troops’ by wanting them to ‘Cut and Run’ before victory is achieved.

I’m tired of a mainstream media that can only focus on car bombs and casualty reports because they are too afraid to leave the safety of their hotels to report on the courage and success our brave men and women are having on the battlefield.

I’m tired that so many Americans think you can rebuild a dictatorship into a democracy over night.

I’m tired that so many ignore the bravery of the Iraqi people to go to the voting booth and freely elect a Constitution and soon a permanent Parliament.

I’m tired of the so called ‘Elite Left’ that prolongs this war by giving aid and comfort to our enemy, just as they did during the Vietnam War.

I’m tired of antiwar protesters showing up at the funerals of our fallen soldiers. A family who’s loved ones gave their life in a just and noble cause, only to be cruelly tormented on the funeral day by cowardly protesters is beyond shameful.

I’m tired that my generation, the Baby Boom-Vietnam generation, have such a weak backbone that they can’t stomach seeing the difficult tasks through to victory.

I’m tired that some are more concerned about the treatment of captives than they are the slaughter and beheading of our citizens and allies. I’m tired that when we find mass graves it is seldom reported by the press, but mistreat a prisoner and it is front page news.

Mostly, I’m tired that the people of this great nation didn’t learn from history that there is no substitute for Victory.

The Prank....

A few weeks ago my hubby got a phone call telling him he was going to be deployed overseas. So I decided to take this short notice opportunity to play a prank on a few friends.
The setup: I didn't tell them that he was going overseas so no one knew. I wrote an email and sent it to my friends. This is the email I wrote:
Subject: Marty packed a couple of bags and left me tonight

Inside: As some of you know, he’s been traveling a lot lately, about 3 weeks out of every month, only home on the weekends. I had wanted to go with him a few times but there was always some reason not to, no good reasons, but still I didn’t go. Now I wish I had all that time back.

A few weeks ago he was in Melbourne, Florida and I got a phone call from him that set things rolling. You know all the excuses, he couldn’t help it, he couldn’t say no, these things sometimes just happen. So tonight he left.

My hubby, Marty, has been sent overseas AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! We had very short notice and he left on the plane tonight heading for the desert. This time it’s a short trip, he should be home by Christmas. So please everyone pray for him and all the other soldiers fighting for us over there.

Prayer's for Hubby, please

Today my hubby left for his fifth trip overseas, to the desert, to an undisclosed location, a location some people know about but we just aren't suppose to say. Enough said.

So please when you are praying, please say a little prayer for safety for my hubby and all of our men and women serving theirs and our country. Whether you agree with the war or not, whether you agree with what our soldiers are doing or not, they still need our prayers and support.

In the meantime I'll be home, waiting for those valuable phone calls, waiting to hear that he's still ok, waiting for him to come home.

I'm Dreaming of a Scrapbook Retreat.....

UPDATE ON RETREAT: This retreat was cancelled by the owners, Krystal Nabors and Laura Terrell, on November 9, 2009. As of March 11, 2010 we still have not received a refund for the retreat we paid for. There have been many excuses and now there are charges that will be filed. If you find yourself in this same position, please let me know and we will work together.

Now I've been to many crops, you know the one day thing. I love those. Our local scrap group meets once a month for an all day crop and I look forward to that one day a month. I've also gone to several scrapping retreats, but only to one location. In November I am going to a weekend retreat in North Georgia at Big Canoe at the Be Scraphappy Retreats. The cabin by Lake Petit, the gorgeous scenery, all my meals made for me, 24 hour scrapping if I choose, or naps in some wonderful looking bedrooms and beds. You should really go by their website and take a look at their pictures, they look AWESOME!

Can you tell I'm super excited!! Oh, and to make things even better, 3 of my dearest friends are coming with me. And if that's not good enough, one of them is bringing her Margarita machine. We plan on having ourselves a party, I can tell you that.

Our retreat is in November from the 12th to the 15th. Another posting and definitely pictures will follow. Until then I hope you will share your favorite retreat places, we are always looking for wonderful places to go.

Welcome to Everything Scrappn's September Blog Hop. I hope you'll enjoy seeing what all of us have created and possibly find some inspiration. I tend to find inspiration from looking at other people's work, yes I am a scraplifter, I'll admit it. There are just so many great ideas out there and I know there is no way I can come up with all of them on my own, so I rely on other wonderfully talented scrappers to inspire my creativity, and I hope I can inspire a few of you in the process.

With Halloween coming up you'll definitely want this for those special spooky pictures that you'll be scrapping.

If any of you know me at all you know I LOVE all things Pink Paislee. When I got my greedy little hands on two of the newest lines, Twilight and Amber Road, I couldn't wait to do something with them. I used the same tutorial for the Circle Flip Up Book on both lines of papers and embellishments. In the tutorial it instructs you to use a circle cutting tool or even a salad plate. I used my friend's large Cricut (so fabulous I need to get me one someday, soon). The Cricut was by far the easiest way to cut my circles. Now I have me a mini book ready for my Halloween pictures and one ready for my fall harvest pictures, this one will be perfect for when I go to the apple festival and pumpkin picking.

Pink Paislee 'Twilight'

I used Glimmer Mist on the front of the book. I found some paper swirls and laid them out, then used Marshmallow mist to get a really cool effect. I also used several different mists on the white Prima flowers. The flower on the front has 3 different mist on it, Haunted Shadow, Raven and Marshmallow. I love how that one came out. The more I use my glimmer mists the more I love them and the more I have to have!

Pink Paislee 'Amber Road'

This has to be one of my all time favorites from Pink Paislee. I have a gorgeous metal sign I am altering using these papers. so come back and I will have that ready for viewing very soon. You'll see that I used my glimmer mists on the Prima's here as well. I just LOVE so much how they turn out, each one is unique, especially if you mix the colors. This is a must try and must have recommendation. I can't say enough about my glimmers.

I'm all a twitter about Twitter!

Thanks to some friends of mine I have delved into Twitter World!!! OMG, I know! It's one of those things I said I'd never do. Just like Facebook. Just like Farm Town on Facebook. And Farmville on Facebook. And a few other applications on Facebook. I guess I can at least be grateful there are no game applications or any other applications on Twitter. So, if any of the few that are reading this blog are on Twitter you can 'follow' me.

Altered Star: Graphic 45 has done it again! They've come out with a new line called Domestic Goddess and it is soooo FABULOUS!!!! I had too many ideas in mind for this paper line but once I found this star to alter I knew I had to use this amazing paper to do it. Please let me know what you think. Pizza Box with Card Set: I found this tutorial to make a mini pizza box, so I decided to make some small cards to match. I like the simplicity of this set, it looks great just sitting on your desk and would also make a great gift. Product used: SEI Madera Island Palmas, Pink Paislee Enchanting Petal, Cloud 9 Cocoa Mint Quote Cards, Prima Flowers, Studio8 Rhinestones, Savvy-n-Sassy ribbon, Bazzill cardstock.

Memorial Day - Remembrance

Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th. In making plans for long weekend getaway’s, friendly gatherings, and cookouts, many times we forget the real reason for the holiday. Memorial Day is the day we honor our veterans, past and present. For many of us it’s a time for remembrance. Sorrow about missing friends and family. We military will always remember. Let’s all take this moment to remember and pray.

The Gucci Bag.....

Our little Gucci loves bags. It doesn’t matter what the bag is, where it comes from, he sees a bag and he will crawl his way into it and stay there for hours. I think if he could crawl into hubby’s boots he’d do that too, and he has tried before, more than once, but he just couldn’t figure out why he doesn’t fit. One day he even got into one of the computer backpacks, we are still finding cat hairs on the computer everytime hubby gets the laptop out. Anyway, he knows he can get into the bagsso that’s turned into his favorite hiding and playing place. I get those ‘green’ bags from Kroger, Publix, WalMart, Target, etc. You should see his eyes when I start pulling those out to use, you’d thinking I just bought him a fresh piece of fish filet. Of course I had to document his bag obsession by way of photos and scrapbooking. Really, is there any better way. So I introduce you to The Original GUCCI Bag……..

Here I am on Blogspot. I started elsewhere but it seems most everyone I know uses this blog setup and I really like what are are capable of doing. You can see my other blog site here: This Scrapper's Life. So I'm going to try out this one and see which I like better.
